Black History month is a month to honour black leaders in our community. Arthur Mitchell was a pioneer in bringing black people into classical dance. Today we add Arthur Mitchell, the first black principal dancer at a major ballet company and the founder of the Dance Theater of Harlem to the Ballet Encyclopedia. A new feature-length documentary is being released about the Ballets Russes company. Spanning over fifty years of the life of this incredible group of artists the film features not only intimate interviews with surviving members of the company but rare archival materials and rarely seen footage - some shot by the dancers themselves.
